@MissGremlin I admire that you don’t have favourite things.
I like words that feel good in the mouth then I say them. Like
Ethereal
Murmuration
Luminescence
Halcyon
Serendipity
Discombobulate
Shenanigans
Mellifluous
Sassafras

@Shaz51 your washing machine does microwave beeps. Still better than washing machines that play those horrible tunes. Worse still that there are no instructions to stop them from discharging this assault on a person’s auditory canal lol 😝
@ENKELI do you have one of these offensive washing machines?

Re: Thursday Coffee and Chat -- 16th April 2026
i went to Costco for the first time on my own today.
I’ve only been to Costco twice in my life. but the last time I went was with family & family-friends and that was several years ago…
but I had an embarrassing moment as well. I didn’t know I was meant to be a member (in other words, have a membership card) of Costco in order to shop there, so after the register guy told me about it after he scanned the items I was gonna purchase, I had to go approach the people working at the customer service inquiry section to register as a member.
at least I learnt something from it despite always having nobody but meeeeeeeee🫠🙃🥲😅

@Glisten I doubt K will thank you for anything you do around his property, he sounds like the type to expect things to be done without gratitude. You are much nicer than me, I would have told him that if he'd maintained his fences then his sheep wouldn't have pruned his hibiscus trees. I'd then add "Oh and you're welcome!"
And I wonder why I have no friends!😂
Ooh is it a special day tomorrow hmm? A birthday for Tomaatti mayhap?

Re: Thursday Coffee and Chat -- 16th April 2026
@Glisten mine chimes when it starts up and beeps when it's finished. It doesn't really bother me, I thought it a novelty when I first bought it but that soon wore off. Even a volume control would be handy for those of us who get annoyed at the tunes and chimes though.
The fridge also beeps if it's left open too long. It's a Fisher and Paykel, back when it was still New Zealand owned. I told a kiwi friend of mine that I got a F&P fridge, and when you open the door, guess what, it says "baaaa". My friend wanted to slap me lol.
I had to replace my microwave earlier this year, the old one would beep until you opened the door and took the food out. The new one doesn't, it just beeps when it's finished and Bobs' your uncle. (He was actually 😂)

You call it the way you see it, Retiisi. Nothing wrong with that.
K’s problem is that a woman was capable of cutting up the branches and fixing his fence - by hand. No chainsaw. Thus challenging his masculinity.
This year, my birthday is on Mother’s Day.

@ENKELI you write THE BEST anecdotal stories BAHAHA
I love them❣️ You describe everyday things, but in the most amusing way.
I honestly think that you should put them together as a collection.
It would be the best light reading and put a smile on the reader’s face.
No storyline, characters or plot to remember. Everyday life with funny bits Hehe

@Glisten aw thanks Tomaatti! I am blushing like a...well...Tomaatti! I love the word discombobulated.
Did I ever tell you that we didn't have TV for a long time as a kid? Mum would get the dictionary out and look for a word, then ask bro and I what the word meant. It sounds boring but it was a lot of fun as both bro and mum have a wicked sense of humour.
I think my favourite time was when she chose the word "fug". You can imagine the fun we had with that one, especially since saying the other f word would guarantee the Wrath of Mother. And while she's short, she was scary.
And forfend. Another word I use regularly. Heaven forfend that fuel prices increase again.

@Shaz51 my washing machine does a jingle. It also randomly beeps during rinse cycles. Leading guests to say "Something's wrong with your load of washing" repeatedly. When it just likes beeping during rinses
I got a bunch of kitchen cleaning done today. In my never ending quest to avoid the (B)NDIS

@Glisten oh, he's one of those types of men. Sigh. I remember reading a book a hundred years ago where a group of girl friends were discussing attitudes of men and one of them said that it's like women belong in the house. One of the other girls said, "yeah, the WHITE House."
How old is this dude? Maybe it's because he grew up in a house of females but bro has always been respectful of women and would never consider his masculinity in danger if mum or I chose to do a "man chore." In fact he'd be grateful that he didn't have to do it!
Sigh, MM is meowing pitifully and looking at me as if he's a starving street cat, never been fed. Best go attend to his lordship lest I find my face missing in the morning!

K is old @ENKELI almost at retirement age. Spends all his time raking leaves, bark, sheep manure, puts it on the Burn pile. Doesn’t make his own mulch.

I laid out some half finished paintings under the ornamental pear tree. I'm planning to let autumn leaves cove them, then pour either clear glue or resin to adhere the leaves to them
And I artificially aged another painting on hessian, using sandpaper and the usual stuff to make paintings "Look" aged

I can relate to your Washing Machine demanding attention @Shaz51
I have a new Fridge that beeps at me (non-stop), if I hold the door open too long.
Today I brought home my new little Suzuki Swift Car - It beeps at me for everything.
It thinks it knows what the Speed Limit is, & gets it wrong...

And where's my jelly?... Oh dear that reminds me of another anecdote!
My grandfather was in hospital at Charlies after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Now this man never swore in front of women or children, and I had only ever heard him say "bloody" once when he was regaling me with a tale from his sordid childhood, but that's another story.
He used to be a truck driver and in the old days he'd have his elbow on the door until one time he nearly lost his arm. He came in holding it with barely anything attached and the only reason it wasn't amputated was that the surgeon knew he needed his arm for his job. So he had to hold his right elbow with his left hand as he couldn't stretch it out. As I was reading my Bible and sitting with him, he kept reaching for his drink cup, then his jelly, then again for his drink cup, then the jelly. So to help him, I pushed the jelly toward him and he said "I don't want my f***ing jelly!" and started to chuckle in his usual way. I had to walk out of the room as I nearly fell over with laughter. He passed away in 1991 I think and we still talk about the time pop told me he didn't want his f***ing jelly!
He was a larrakin and is likely the reason I have my sense of humour. I loved him dearly and really think I might start writing tales of the Carnarvon Lad one of these days.

Yes to buy things yourself you have to be a member (or have been given a costco giftcard 😉); you are not alone in not having known this. 😊
I'm so glad the person at the register still helped you with the purchase and buying the membership too so you could still proceed 😊.
I have been a member of costco for a very long time as i once worked not far from their head-office store, and that make it very convenient and cheap for things like optical (glasses), hearing aids (for my then-partner), and bulk long-storage items 😊. (Not *everything* is cheaper than Aldi though, but most stuff is as cheap or cheaper than Coles/Woolies so i often dont bother checking prices unless something feels expensive lol).
Im so proud of you 🤩. Thank you for sharing and tagging me. 😊
(Im still working back through over 100 tags lol, so yes i will likely have older osts you have tagged me in that i havent gotten to yet and i apologise in advance if so!)
