Business idea overwhelm

Business idea overwhelm

So my first post on SANE was a couple of months ago.

I had just entered into a difficult living situation and was suffering with decision paralysis over what to do next to become financially independent (hampered by CPTSD, chronic pain and suspected ASD).

I received some great advice about working from home and not trying to figure everything out in just one day. Thanks again to everyone who contributed.

Recently I have brainstormed a list of ideas that factor in my need to work from home. I'm a bit arty/crafty so they are mostly handmade goods to sell on consignment. Unfortunately with the scale of it all I can't seem to figure out how to start!

I'm distracting myself in unproductive ways and growing more depressed every day. Basic tasks sap all my energy and I'm feeling guilty because I'm not able to be my best as a fur mama (he is my lifeline).

I'm not sure what to do. For now I'll try to sleep and in the meantime thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this and/or respond. 🐈

Re: Business idea overwhelm

I've had some experience in running my own business. @Mortimer_3 I wouldn't say I'm an expert in any way but...I've also got a Cert 3 in Microbusiness Management.

It's not easy running your own business, but it is possible.

First step would be to think about your consumer. Who are they? What age bracket? What do they want/like/need? Even go so far as creating your ideal customer.

From there, you can figure out;

  • Your products
  • How much they cost you to make V's how much you're going to sell them for
  • What/how are you going to sell them (markets, over social media etc)
  • How to advertise - different consumers access advertising differently. Younger people are more likely to engage in social media, older people are more likely to look elsewhere.

From there, you can start working at the small, but important details. - like getting an ABN, creating a business name, working out costs etc.

Hi @NightFury

Thank you for sharing this; it's really sound practical advice. I will certainly come back to these points when I can finally untangle all the thoughts.😺
